Many free web hosts will not allow this piece of code to function on their servers. This is common practice and unfortunately there is nothing we can do to help you. However, you may have copied and pasted the code wrongly. Please make sure that if you are using an HTML editor like FrontPage that the code is staying intact. We recommend you edit the HTML directly in order to paste the Top Sites Button. If you are experiencing difficulty inserting html code on your web pages please see our FAQ relating to inserting links from our site.

I have added my site but it is not showing up in the Top Site List. Why?
Your site will not appear in the list until you have installed the Top Sites Button on your website (on a live server). In addition, in any week where your site does not generate any button impressions, your site will not appear in the list. This is to prevent the site listing "dead sites" that people have added but never got round to adding the code to their site.

How and when is the Top Sites List updated?
Unlike every other Top Pet Sites list, our list is updated in real-time. This means that your site can and will fluctuate in ranking throughout the day.

How do you determine the order (ranking) of sites in the list?
All sites are listed by default in order of weekly popularity. Popularity is determined by the number of visitors that site has - as far as we can determine - in the 7 days prior to when you are looking at the list. This is measured by the number of times our Top Sites Button is displayed on their site. We do not take into account the number of unique users, because popularity is as much based on the number of pages your visitors find appealing as the number of visitors you have.

Can I install more than one instance of the Top Sites Button on my site?
No, this is against our program rules and your site may be deleted from our list automatically and without warning. However, you are encouraged to place the code on as many of your pages as possible - that way you will earn extra credit and will move further up the list. For example, if you have a shared bottom or left border that every page has, this is the place to install the code!

What does your Top Sites Button look like?
When you Add Your Site, you will receive a small snippet of code to copy and paste into your website. When this is published to a web server, the output will look exactly as below. Sites ranked within the top 50 positions in the Top Sites list as a whole will have their position displayed on the logo (left). If your site is not within the top 50 sites, it will display a general badge (right).

When this button is live on your site, it will link to the Site Information Page for your site, offering visitors a chance to rate or review your site.

My site did not generate any impressions last week - do I need to add it again?
In any given period of 7 days that your site does not generate any button impressions, your site is automatically not shown in our directory. However, as soon as there are any impressions recorded your site will return to the list. You do not need to resubmit your site. In addition, when your site becomes "active" again, any reviews or votes which were previously posted for your site will be available to view again.

My site is listed at number 'X' but my site button displays number 'Y'. Why?
Your Top Sites code button will always display the position of your site in the list out of all sites in our program, not in your specific category. For example, you may be listed third in the Dog Sites category but your button displays the number 5. This is because two sites in another category have a better overall score. You can check your position in the list overall by finding your site in the Browse All Sites section.

My Top Pet Site is definately live but I can not find it when I search PetPeoplesplace.com
You can check the status of your site by checking your Account Pages. Search results are typically several days behind the actual content of our website and non-appearance in search results is not usually an indication that your site is not yet live. Usually you can find your ad by browing the section categories even if your ad is not yet appearing in search results.

I installed the Top Sites code on my site some time ago. Why is my site no longer listed?
If your site becomes inactive for 90 days or more (does not register a single button impression in that time), it will automatically expire from our program. To reinstate your site, you must sign up again and install a new button code on your website.
