Pooky the Dachshund Dog

When we got our first dog my kids were still a little scared of dogs. It took about 5 minutes before they were chasing him around. I did not want a dog. I definitely didn't want a dachshund. But the moment his little head popped up out of my husbands coat I was smitten. He was 8 weeks old and weighed about 4 lbs. Just as cute as a bugs ear. He followed me everywhere he slept with us and rode in the car with us everywhere we went. He was a member of the family. Then late in the evening he went with my husband to drive my sister home and climbed out an open window and disappeared into the night. When my husband got home and realize that pooky was no longer in the van we immediately started a search. we looked for him until well after midnight. We found him on the side of the road. He had been hit. his heart was still beating but his skull as crushed. I wept all night and had to tell my 8,6,4 and 2yr children about what had happened. they cried for hours. I never though that loosing a pet could cause such sadness. As I think back I realize how that experience has changed us so much of how I think of our pets. I sit with pookys brother and sister who are very different then he was. We didnt get them at 8 weeks old. I miss him even more. Our lives were changed so much by that itty bitty dog. I now have 3 doxys but all of them combined could come close to the impact that pooky left on our lives. I will always cry for him and miss him forever. Thank you for letting me share him with you.
