I got Lucky from a friend who found him as a stray. His parents had agreed to let him keep him, then one of his parents lost their job. They went from two to one income and could not afford to take care of the dog. He was given to me and we bonded. I told Lucky all my secrets, everything that was going on in my life and he had this habit of sitting there right beside me looking around always leaving his ears cocked my direction. He acted as if he understood he hung his head when I was sad, wagged his tail and licked me when I was happy. He had this way of throwing himself against me and cuddling looking ever so cute if I come out there and was talking to him while I was mad.
I don't know how but he just knew. Lucky was the best friend I have ever had. Lucky was a loyal mutt. I loved him a lot and he took to me like no one else. He started digging holes at our rental trailer during the summer so we took him to my grandmother's house which is where he had lived most his life anyway (we used to live there before we moved). My cousin was trying to untangle him one day and was no where near strong enough to hold that dog and Lucky listened to nobody but me. Lucky got loose ran into the road...and a car swerved to hit him. They hit and ran he was a big sturdy dog and therefore left a nice sized dent in their car, but they done more damage.
He was bleeding bad and when taken to the vet all that had happened was his hip had been dislocated. I was relieved. The joint was put back in socket he refused to stay still and rest though during his recovery time. The joint did not heal and we had two options 300 dollar surgery which may not work even the first three times or to put him down. We didn't have the money for surgery, we had to put him down.
I was devastated heartbroken. I love you Lucky.
