Aug 25, 2006 at 3:09 #476996I think you have yourself a happy bunny! I have heard that this is a sign of affection and a very happy bun! I don’t know anything about rabbits’ mating rituals so I’m not sure if this is one of them.
Aug 25, 2006 at 3:05 #477133I have a 5 year old house rabbit who has basically destroyed my apartment. When I first got her I really didn’t know much about rabbits and the girl I got her from said she is not a chewer. Well, I left her free and when I came home from work and turned on my computer it wouldn’t work. She had chewed the cords! She was digging and plucking at my carpet, so I started gateing her in my kitchen during the day. When I was home I let her out, but as soon as I left to do laundry or take a shower she would start burrowing away and there would be a new hole. Before I knew it my carpet was destroyed and I will have to replace it when I move, but then someone suggested a way to stop her. Whenever she is plucking at the carpet I shoot a water gun at her. I’m not talking like a supersoaker huge jet stream, but just a little stream. Once I did it enough she stopped chewing. I heard that a squirt gun is the best because your rabbit will not associate the water with you; what I mean is, if you swat at her or anything like that she might start to be aggresive with you. I don’t keep her in the kitchen anymore and she is not allowed in my bedroom. She has earned my trust to let her be in the living room during the day, but she occasionaly digs a little.
Aug 25, 2006 at 2:52 #477203Your rabbit sounds so cute! One time my rabbit scared me because one time I found her laying on her side and I thought she was dead. I went over to her and she got up, but if they lay on their side then they are very relaxed and comfortable. She’s a house rabbit and the first time I found her she was behind a chair. I don’t know if all rabbits are the same, but when my rabbit wants to lay on her side she just kind of falls that way. It’s not very graceful!

I got my rabbit from a shelter and she was already litter trained, but I always have problems with her going outside the box. I know the poop is a territory thing.
Aug 25, 2006 at 2:35 #477570You can take your rabbit to a vet to be sure, but my rabbit is 5 years old and I adopted her when she was 4 and she naturally has one ear up and one ear down. She can put the other ear up to listen to something, but most of the time it’s down. Some rabbits are just born that way!
Aug 25, 2006 at 2:33 #477045Stick to fruit and veggies, pellets and timothy hay.Pet store treats are loaded with sugar. How could you possibly think that a rabbit can eat candy?
Aug 25, 2006 at 2:29 #477602I was alarmed the first time my house rabbit started shedding because I thought she had a disease! It is normal for rabbits to shed a lot and the shedding is very random and just looks like little tufts of fur everywhere on her. If you see skin there might be a problem or if it is only in one spot. As far as toys, my rabbit loves cardboard in any form, like cereal boxes, toilet paper rolls or any other cardboard. My rabbit also likes these sea-grass mats that they sell in pet stores.
Aug 25, 2006 at 2:17 #477063It could possibly be just normal shedding. The first time this happened to my rabbit I called the person I adopted her from because I thought she had a disease! She assured me that it is normal because rabbits go through shedding periods. It looks like tufts of fur just coming out in random places, but if your rabbit is losing fur to the point where you see skin, that is a problem. Sometimes the shedding stage lasts for a couple of months. It is VERY important to brush your bunny every day or almost every day. It will help your rabbit shed and when you brush her it will look like she is shedding a lot of hair. Sometimes I can make a whole new rabbit out of what comes out when I brush her. I like an animal brush that has kind of stiff bristles, but not too stiff. I bought a soft bristled bunny brush and it was fine, but then I switched to a stiffer bristled brush and I can get a lot more hair out. BE GENTLE and once again, if you are seeing skin it might be something different than normal shedding.
Aug 25, 2006 at 2:09 #477451I have a house rabbit who thumps a foot every once in a while and it happens when she hears something that she doesn’t like. She might be hearing something that I don’t hear. I live in an apartment with people downstairs and since she is close to the floor she might hear a noise or two that frightens her.
Aug 25, 2006 at 2:04 #477608Make sure your rabbit never runs out of hay and I recommend Oxbow Timothy-based pellets. You can usually find this in your local pet store, but if not you can search online. A steady supply of hay is very important.
