Hey Everyone! I have just recently adopted a pomeranian from a woman in Alabama (I live in NY). We are going to pick her up on our way out of AL, but I was wondering, how will she handle the long drive? She is crate trained, but I don’t think there will be enough room for a crate. I was thinking to get one of those doggy "car seats" for her. I just don’t know how to handle it. Also, can anyone reccomend a pet friendly hotel? Thanks so much!

I have to first disaggree with the reply stating to hide her in the hotel. You could find yourself being kicked out that night of the pup makes sounds or you are discovered walking her. I have found when I travel that many of the Comfort/Choice/Rodeway/Clarion/Sleep/Quality Inn hotels (all the same company) very accomodating to dogs. I have stayed in them in Canada, New York, and Delaware with my dogs. http://www.qualityinn.com/ http://www.choicehotels.com/ http://www.comfortinn.com/ (these three URLS will get you to a page where you can find a local hotel of any of the franchises and call to see if they will allow the pup overnight if needed). Never hide a dog in a hotel. It is just not fair and there are reasons why some do not allow dogs. Now for travelling. Safest place for a new pup that is not acclimated to seat belts is in a secure crate on the back seat. Stop every two to three hours for a potty break and water break. I have travelled 500 miles with dogs and a pup. If you are smart, use a safe crate and take plenty of breaks, you should do fine.
