Well it really depends on how you use it. If you use it to the point that your horse is doing everything you ask out of fear then i dont like people like that either. I do, though carry one…but it doesnt hurt the horse, in fact they can just sorta feel it. The first day i used one i told my trainer i didnt want to hurt the horse with it and she said to test it on my leg, but not hard, just like you would to remind your horse to stop being hardheaded and you can barely feel it and horses skin is tougher than ours so i think it all matters on how it is used..

Whips are very good aids and your horse will get used to you carrying one. My trainer says that you should always carry a whip just in case you need it but you dont have to use it.I used to never carry a whip but then my horse started being a brat and i brought one with me and she was excelent and i didnt use it on her once. So it just kinda serves as a reminder that you are the boss and the one in control….
    Hope this helped

Well it depends on what you are using the horse for…I myself have fell in love with Tbs. [=
The only thing bad about Tbs is that they are high strung and can be very hot tempered horses and when you first start riding them its totally different from other horses. They are also very hardheaded and can have their moments.hehe.I also like quarter horses, they are very reserved and good companions and are an all around horse. Also if your young, id say appalossas do pretty well. They are very willing horses and good tempered depending on how well they are trained and handeld. At the barn I ride our horses consist mostly of quarter horses with a few Tbs, a shetland, and appalossa.
