My 12 year old dog was recently on prednisone (5mg) due to the left side of his face suddenly becoming paralyzed. After a couple weeks, we were referred to a neurologist. After an MRI and test of spinal fluids both tested clear, we were told it’d clear up on it’s own. The vet also ran some blood tests & found a spike in protein levels in my dog’s liver. He ran another test and said it’s not cancerous. But wants to run more tests and possibly an ultrasound to check for inflammation and/or infection. This is really costing a lot. My dog has no symptoms pointing to any liver issues. I’m looking for a 2nd opinion. Do you think it’d be ok to wait on any further tests for now? He has been known to be sensitive to meds and I wonder if this is a reaction to the prednisone. Vet said that’s possible, but more likely if my dog had been on it for 6 months versus the 1 month he’s been on it.
