Skye is an 8 year old neutered male, pure-bred miniature Austrailian Shepherd (approx.40 lbs.) with a blue merle coat. He is trained and in excellent health (no medications except monthly anti-flea pill). He loves playing ball, frisbee, and tug-of-war(especially with the ball or frisbee when he returns them). Skye has resided with one suburban family since puppy-hood, responds to commands, andyearns to be with his adult owners as much as possible (at your feet, under the kitchen table, in the caroin errands, next to your bed etc). Skye is not only loyal but, as a mature dog isalso very protective of his personal space(sleeping and eating) and his owner’spremises. Thus, he needs disclipinedhandling to prevent him from becomingnippy or aggressive (he respects the "alpha dog" who letshim know his placein the pack)and he should be leashed in the presence of strangers (gardeners, skateboarders, bicyclist, etc.). The nature of his breed is to be a semi-independent ranch dog, a partner and co-working rather than a cuddly lap dog (see the movie "Babe" depicting a similar breed), and for this reason he would be best placed with adults who are familiar with the instincts and behavior of "working" dogs. in that situation, he would plug in seamlessly and perfectly, (Skye must sadly leave his original family because there are now young human "puppies" in the home invading his personal space and threatening his long-held priority position with his adult owners.)
