Do they only act this way with other cats because I have two dogs and whenever we brought them into our home, our cat didn’t mind them at all?

I’d love to hear any advice on this also. I want to add another cat to our 1 cat house. He always growls and hisses and hides for a couple days when I try to bring a kitten home. I usually end up not keeping the new cat. My mother-in-law has 6 kittens that will be ready in a few weeks and there is one in the litter I would really like to have.

I totally believe in the benefits of the crate. It keeps them safe whenever you are not or cannot be around them. My dogs don’t mind it at all. If the door is open they will go inside their crates, even when they don’t have to, just to nap or whatever. From everything I have read it is the "den" instinct in them. I was also very successful with housebreaking our dogs using the crate. The thing to remember is to never use the crate as a form of discipline or punishment for your dog. It is supposed to be a place of comfort for them. Make sure there is enough room to be comfy but not too much room because this allows them to soil their "den". Normally, just enough room to move to another sleeping position is all they need, no more, no less and they won’t soil. Good luck and I hope this helps.

crate train them for whenever you are not at home and correct their behavior whenever you are
both of my dogs have been crate trained starting at about 10 weeks old and it takes a little time and patience but it pays off in the end

When you want a cat to do something, such as sit on your lap, act as if you don’t want them there. Works for my cat. I see him coming…I ignore as if I don’t want him near me…..then there he is (all 18 pounds of him) right on my lap. Then when I want him to get down, I act as if I want to hold him or cuddle him, then he is gone. Cats have very strange ways. I am a LEO and that is how I work too. I do things on my own time, when I want and if I can’t I get mad…haha. I hope that you don’t take my advice to seriously. That is just how my cat is and he is older (7yrs) and set in his ways. All cats are different and have very different personalities and those personalities don’t always mesh with their humans.

I don’t really have any advice on the toilet flushing cat, but I just had to say that I found that story/question really funny! Kitties are just so funny!!! If it were happening in my house it wouldn’t neccessarily be a bad thing since I have 3 -8 kids in my house at any given time and they aren’t always so great about getting the potty flushed. Maybe I could borrow her sometime….Good luck!

You want advice on how to stay sane and calm your nerves and you get on here to ask for it….hilarious!!! If you want advice, ask a professional. That way you don’t have to get on here and have every pet rescuer shoving their judgment and opinions down your throat. I am all for rescuing pets, but that doesn’t mean that I sit back and judge breeders either. I have rescued pets and I have bought pets. I think that we need more responsible informed breeders making sure dogs are healthy and put into responsible, healthy, loving homes. I think that a lot of these people on these posts need to lighten up and realize that their opinions aren’t neccessarily the right thing for everyone and not everyone wants to hear their crap. You know the old saying""Opinions are like a**hol*s, Everyone’s got one""". You say your dog is driving you to drink….well, friend, here’s my opinion, sit back relax and have a cold one! GOOD LUCK!

I have a golden retriever and a Jack RT and they both do the same thing. You have to catch them doing it and address it right then. We tried the bark collar and they both figured it out real quick and wouldn’t leave our porch when we put it on them. Get his attention right as he is about to do it and correct him right before he starts running or barking. That way he knows you don’t like that behavior at all.

It is so terrible to lose a pet in the first place but to lose your Dakota this way , is just wrong. I hope you can work something out on that bill and get some closure on this. My condolences to you and your poor family. God Bless!

I have a golden retriever named Miller Albert Rolen…..Miller we call him. We just liked that name. We are St. Louis Cardinals fans and my children insisted on Albert…for Albert Pujols (Amen!) and Rolen for Scott Rolen (can I get another Amen?!). He is the smartest dog I have ever owned and the most loyal. I adore him. We also have a Jack Russell terrier and her name is Cider Blue Moonshine (don’t ask). We call her Cider, or Blue, or Sis or whatever she decides she wants to answer to at that second. She can be a little stubborn when she wants. I also have a housecat named Boots which is pretty self explanatory, he is black with four white feet. He is pretty special. He is the only cat that I know that knows how to fetch, but he will only fetch black pony tail holders. Weird! I also foster my neices dog, who is a litter mate brother to my golden and his name is DJ Jazzy Jasper. She chose the name from the internet and her mom is a Will Smith fan from the old school (DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince). I also love seeing what other people name their pets. My Granny had a cat who passed away this past summer and she was the prettiest calico that I have ever seen…her name was Magnolia. RIP Mag’s we miss you.

Our golden retriever did this about a month ago. He cut one of his pads on the bottom. I took him to the vet and he said he has seen this many times and told me what to do. He said clean it, dry it, use ordinary super glue to glue it together. Let the glue dry and wrap the foot with masking tape to keep it tight. This worked for us. We kept checking it for any infection and we kept putting glue on it for about 4 days and it healed right up. The glue wore off on its own and he has been fine since. I hope this helps.

She will definately be getting spayed. All of my animals are and since I have no interest in breeding , having her fixed is the right thing for us. She is actually a gift for my hubby. We farm so she will get to hunt and run and ride in tractors and combines and trucks, etc. I think she will like her life with us. We have two older children that will also make sure she gets plenty of exercise and attention. She will be able to go fishing with us and riding in the woods. She is a lucky girl. My husband doesn’t want a girlie…froo, froo name. He wants something different but not frilly. So far he likes Copper, Cider, Shandy but can’t think of many more.

obviously you have had your lecture on taking your dog to the pet store if in fact it is a pup…don’t do that. suebwhatever is right, pups can get sick. Good vets and breeders will tell you to keep a pup somewhat isolated after coming home for the first time and after vaccinations. You will need to keep the same diet and if you want to change it check with your vet and change it gradually. It allows their sensitive digestive system to adjust to the new food. Go to the pet store and ask for help and they can tell you everything you need to get. Just go there BEFORE you bring your dog home so you are well prepared and don’t have to take it with you.

He is finally using the box again. I moved both boxes to a new space and he is using the one that he normally doesn’t use much. Don’t know why that worked. Thanxxx all!

I have 2 boxes. I scoop once..sometimes 2x a day. I change whole box once a week. He is not declawed. I was always scared to do that. I thought he would get outside (which he never does) and not be able to cliimb or defend himself if a dog or another cat tried to hurt him. I tried vinegar for the smell and it seemed to help. I didn’t want to try anything harsh that he could ingest and get sick from. I figured if he got vinegar on his paws and licked them he would be ok. I have enough to worry about with all the food recalls having dogs and a cat. I am thinking he has a UTI. I am going to have him checked. I know from experience how painful those can be.
