The reason that it is illegal to "euthanize" humans is that it is murder. That should tell you something. If they don’t do it to humans, it shouldn’t be done to animals either. It should be illegal to euthanize animals. "Euthanasia" is a euphemism, like "put to sleep" or "put down." It should be illegal to use the words "had to" in the same sentence with the "e" word. There is never any excuse; never any "had to." Barbaro was murdered, as was Eight Belles and all other horses who have been tragically killed by the racehorse industry.

Jan 27, 2008 at 2:39 #483818DO NOT TAKE HER BACK TO PET STORE. YOU KNOW WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO HER. THEY WILL SAY SHE CANNOT BE SOLD AND THEY WILL KILL HER.
IN THE 1990s, I HAD A WHITE-AND-BLACK HAMSTER NAMED ROXANA WHO I HAD HER ENTIRE LIFE SINCE THE DAY SHE WAS BORN. SHE WOULD BITE ME EVERY TIME SHE COULD. SHE WOULD BITE ME EVERY TIME MY FINGERS WERE WITHIN REACH. SHE WOULD WATCH MY HANDS NEAR HER CAGE AND SHE WOULD WAIT TO BITE ME! HER WHOLE LIFE!
IT NEVER BOTHERED ME THAT SHE BIT ME. I WOULD SAY, THOSE LITTLE TEETH THAT I LOVE MADE THESE MARKS! I LOVED HER DEARLY AND WAS ALWAYS, ALWAYS GRATEFUL THAT I WAS BLESSED TO OWN HER. NONE OF HER LITTERMATES BIT; NEITHER DID HER PARENTS. THAT IS JUST WHO ROXANA WAS– AND WE MUST JUST ACCEPT AND LOVE OUR PETS AS THEY ARE.Jul 2, 2007 at 6:19 #482631Euthanasia is murder. It is a euphemism for murder. Usually when people use the word, they say, "had to" or "forced to" to TRY to justify it.
Mar 8, 2007 at 4:02 #482699I had successful surgery on a hamster for a tumor in her cheek pouch. She continued to live a normal healthy life after surgery. The cheek pouch tumor was causing her much distress so I chose to have it removed. However, Mocha’s ear tumor very likely isn’t bothering her to the point where it is necessary to put her through the trauma of surgery.
Mar 8, 2007 at 3:59 #482684Isn’t there anyone out there who has a car/is located in Pennsylvania, who would provide this rat a permanent home? Surely there is someone who would be able to give it the accommodations that it needs? I can’t possibly be the only person who would be willing to take this pet?
Mar 8, 2007 at 3:54 #482683I with all my heart hope that he does not end up euthanized. I would take him in and keep him for the rest of his natural life and never ever turn against him for biting me.
Mar 7, 2007 at 7:23 #482678I live in Maryland (I lived in Virginia when I joined this site; that’s why my location shows as Virginia) so please keep me in mind if you cannot find a suitable home for him in Pennsylvania. I do not have a car and neither Amtrak nor Greyhound allows pets on their vehicles unless they are service animals.
Mar 6, 2007 at 9:21 #482617I am here as a voice of reason, not to entertain people.
Mar 6, 2007 at 8:37 #482676He may need special accommodations to make certain he does not escape. I had a black-and-white hamster, Roxana, who bit me all her life. I had her and her littermates from birth, back in the 1990s. She was the only one who ever bit me. She would watch me every time I approached her cage, waiting to bite me. I loved her with all my heart. She was the one who later in life developed a tumor in her cheek pouch and I spent around $180 for surgery for her to save her life. She went on to continue to lead a normal life and lived a normal lifespan. And never stopped biting. I loved her unconditionally. I am deeply grateful that I was the one blessed to provide a home for her. There are some rats, hamsters, rabbits, etc. that are just biters and that is who they are. I would myself take your rat as a pet for the rest of his life if I had any way of transporting him (I don’t have a car.) There must be someone out there who lives near to you who would gladly give him a permanent home?
Mar 6, 2007 at 6:03 #482588I hope he is doing well now.
Mar 6, 2007 at 6:01 #482625NO!!! Do not euthanize!!!! He doesn’t even sound like he needs to go to the vet either.
Mar 6, 2007 at 5:59 #478229Animal shelters euthanize and people adopt rabbits for wrong reasons like snake food– try to hold on to them because rabbits are very vulnerable to being killed by people/animal shelters/snakes.
Mar 6, 2007 at 5:57 #482615NO!!!!!! Do not euthanize! He doesn’t even sound like he needs to go to the vet at all.
Mar 6, 2007 at 5:55 #482634Sometimes some hamsters will sleep in their wheel– so, there is absolutely nothing wrong with it.
