Some good quality foods are Innova, Canidae, Nutro, and more. Nutro I’ve heard isn’t the best for small breeds, but I own 2 Yorkies, and a Shih-Tzu, and they’ve done great on it. I’ve recently switched to Innova, and it seems wonderful so far. They’ve had some watery poo lately, but I think it’s the food change, and once they’re systems are used to this food, they should be better. GOOD LUCK!

Dec 7, 2006 at 6:39 #476282I would definately reccoment a Leopard Gecko. We have one named Nacho and he’s SO sweet. Occasionally when startled, he’ll take a snap at you, but they don’t have big teeth, and it doesn’t hurt. He LOVES to just come out, and sit on your shoulder, or climb around on your T-shirt. He’s pretty good about being handled, and likes attention. He also is so cute when hunting for crickets, and mealworms. They’re very entertaining, and would provide a wonderful childs pet. I am 15, and we’ve had him for about a year, and I can’t wait to spend a long time with this little guy. π GOOD LUCK!
Dec 7, 2006 at 6:30 #463260Suebgone, you are probably right about the bathing. I was reccomended to do so for my dogs, and I automatically thought all dogs should do the same, please excuse me. π Also, there are some vetrinatians that in really bad cases can put the dogs under while they groom, but you may not wish to put your dog through that. I know I wouldn’t. But yes, please let us know what you’re feeding her. I know several wonderful brands, and I know Suebgone has wonderful advice on the subject as well. π

Dec 6, 2006 at 7:58 #463257Well, 1st off, you may need to start bathing her more often. My dogs are bathed 1-2x a week with a very mild shampoo. I own 2 Yorkies and a Shih-Tzu. Secondly, that "ratty" look may never go away. The "wire" haired doxie in her is giving her this look. Do a google search on a Wire Haired Dachsund, and you’ll see what I mean. Also, diet plays a HUGE role in the coat. I feed my dogs Innova. If you cannor find this, Nutro is acceptable. What diet do you have her on currently? Fish Oil is a great suppliment. You just put this in her food (I wouldn’t be one to ask how often, maybe someone else can answer that) and it will improve her coat. Do you have any pictures of her? If I can see her build, and approximate size I probably can help you more. She sounds darling. π Good luck, and if you have any more questions either post them or email me at blacktexasroses@yahoo.com and I’d be more than happy to help you!!! π
Nov 30, 2006 at 7:43 #442766The black dots could definately be blood. If not maybe some…i don’t know mites? fleas? small ticks? Definately take her to the vet. The blood is probably from the itching, and the itching is probably from some sort of parasite (fleas, etc) or maybe allergies. Is she allowed outside? I’ve heard of cats being allergic to sorts of Grass. Maybe keep her in for a while to see it makes a difference? Let me know if you need anymore help! Good Luck!
Nov 27, 2006 at 11:55 #424984You need a set of clippers. You can get them at petsmart, walmart, etc. You can also use moustache clippers. The standard is 1/3 of the ear gets shaved, but i think in your situation, you may be able to get away with shaving the whole ear this one time. make sure to get all of the inside also. for the excess hair inside the ear, pull it out. if you do it quickly, it’s not painful for the dog. GOOD LUCK!
Oct 28, 2006 at 4:34 #487498If it was stated in something that you signed, then yes. If you didn’t sign anything, then no. But really, spaying is in the best intrest of the animal, unless you plan to *RESPONSIBLY* breed your dog. I’m extremely tired, so I don’t want to go into the details, but this includes LOTS of time, effort, and money. Your dog should be titled if you want to breed her. You also should test your dog OFA, CERF, Brucellosis, etc. And LOTS more. If you’re interested in learning about what all is involved, post so, and I’ll elaborate in the morning. Zzzzz. Good night. π
Oct 27, 2006 at 4:36 #481639It is very possible that it is old age. The head shaking could be seizuring. The cloudy eye, could be catarats, or blindness. Of course it "could be" anything. Please inform us on what the vet says. Good luck! π
Oct 11, 2006 at 10:12 #442560That could be it. Good luck! π
Oct 11, 2006 at 8:33 #471300Eggs are extremely healthy for a dogs diet. Don’t add the bacon though. And don’t put seasoning (salt) or cheese on them. This way, both of you win-the dogs get special food, but don’t get too overweight on it. Scramble up some eggs (don’t use butter, use PAM) and mix it in with their dog food. Eggs are a wonderful source of protien, and we feed them to our Yorkies for their fur. It gives wonderful sheen, and helps it grow. We show our Yorkie, so eggs are wonderful. Just don’t give them too much. One egg each a day is plenty.
Oct 11, 2006 at 8:26 #442556Sorry, not sure I fully got that. If she finishes her food, she’ll tear the kitchen apart for more? I’d put her in a kennel/crate until her next meal. Feed her breakfast, lunch, and dinner at the same time you eat. It’s not right for her to be so hungry. Is there anyway she’s pregnant?
Oct 11, 2006 at 8:22 #463069When I got my Yorkie, she also had Kennel Cough, and my vet reccomended Robitussin DM. It works great, and helps reduce the swelling, and pain in the throat. Dixie started losing weight rapidly, and it was because her throat was so swollen she couldn’t eat. We gave her the Robitussin DM, and it cleared up. We also used pills from the vet though. We paid right around that also. Probably $450-ish. But I think the robitussin will work. Try that. We used a seringe(sp?). You can probably used any type of dropper. 1-2 full things of it. Good luck! Dixie is happy and healthy now. I hope your pup gets better too.
Oct 11, 2006 at 8:17 #442552Start feeding her separate. Give her less food, so she can’t eat so much as to vomit. Let me know how that works. π
