‘I realize that this may be a stupid question but who the heck buys health insurance for their pet? I guess I understand why you would maybe want it for a valuable dog such as a show dog or racing horses, but health insurance for a family pet seems a little rediculous.’
I do ! I have 3 cats and a dog, I pay just under £20 per month for all 4 maximum benefit lifetime cover, I also had a cat who sadly had to be PTS due to FIV spreading rapidly throughout his whole body causing multple organ collapse, his bill totalled approx £600 – I wouldn’t have been able to pay it had he not been covered and the vet wouldn’t have gone to such great lengths with various tests and treatment. Some pet owners suddenly find themselves in a situation where they can’t afford life saving treatment, many people choose to euthanise their beloved pets when the condition isn’t even life threatening. I’d rather pay insurance than have to sacrifice the life of my pet when it’s unnecessary, simply because I can’t afford it. What’s £20 per month for 4 cherished lives that enhance my life every chance they get ?Nov 5, 2007 at 5:50 #450753I’ve emailed shelter asking for situation to be confirmed but haven’t yet received response, I tried calling but all I got was the answermachine, if you’re interested by all means try and contact shelter – there were several other dogs due to be PTS the same day, I have no idea on them… wish I was in US to help more.
Thank you for your support.Nov 4, 2007 at 7:39 #450751I heard she’s been reprieved, I’m in England UK but a contact in Georgia emailed to say she’d phoned several rescues, a husky rescue in Chicago has since contacted the shelter and they’re hoping to place her, there’s interest from people wanting to adopt – I don’t know why link didn’t work, I’ll try and insert pic instead, she’s a real beauty…

Apr 10, 2007 at 3:41 #491652Sorry you guys are so upset, but thank you for taking time to read, this is unfortunately the sad story of many pets who were once classed as a family member, my heart goes out to all of them and to anyone who has ever had to make the heartwrenching decision to PTS any animal due to illness, pain and suffering, it’s something I never want to have to do again, but when the time comes the choice we have is them or us pain… it should never be them. Cherish your pets and take a few moments to think of how you may be able to help those who need homes and could benefit greatly from your love and support, you can change their innocent lives !
