i have heard of this yes, my old staffordshire had asthma with a cleft pallet, the vet couldnt really give her anything just advised to steam the room of a night when she seems bad and dont let her get over excited where do you put her to sleep, maybe bed is comfy for him, but not her breathing. maybe try a bed with a top peice like a cat one.. as cold can make breathing worse, or cover her up dont let her by a heater that drys the air…….. have a jug of plain water over your heaters and steam with ”vicks vapor rub” in boiling water. above by her bed side.. hope this helps.

She sleeps with me most of the time. I now have a hepa-filtered air cleaner in the room she is in to help make her breathe easier. I have spent so much ‘ with no results. I went to Pets Mart today to get a special dog food that is made with fish & potatoes. In order to buy the food that a vet tech told me to get the vet at pets mart wanted me to pay him $28.00 for an exam. He would not let me have the vet tech call him on the phone only fax from the office which she wasnt in because of the holiday. I tried to get the lady to have the vet come out so I could meet him first and she said he was in surgery but if I agreed to pay the money he would come out and speak to me & examine the dog. I was mad and just bought the venison food instead. I don’t care if I have to spend the money but Sasha needs results. It breaks my heart to hear her strain to breathe especially at night. Do you think the hepa filter will help her?

yes any filters and humidifiers will help to ease breathing, and if your current vet hasnt said its asthma, maybe getting a second opinion may help. you can get fish oils in medication, for animals and other remedies that you might find that will help…… but this vet at the pet mart, you dont have to see him if you dont want to…….you should be able to buy any type of food you want, getting a diagnosis will only help to advise the best food. i get food for my cats that is for sensitive skin etc, but i didnt need to get the vet to check him over, just bought it…… HILLS SCIENCE FORMULA, is a good food and have all different variety for certain things, maybe have a look on their web site and read through it see if theres anything that may help sasha., ill get the link, for you. ill re-post it in a mo’ other than that, theres only so much you can do, its the same with a child who has asthma, keep them calm, and lots of comfort…. how old is she now? if shes young sometimes as with children she may grow out of it….

Hugs back at ya! How sweeeeet of you to ask your Vet…..It’s amazing how kind a person you never met can be when it comes to our pets which we love like our own childre. I called the vet today to fax over the blood work I had done several weeks ago to see if maybe it would show an infection of some sort? ??? I also had the hepa filter air cleaner on all night but she did wake me up a few times during the night making those terrible grunting sounds. I submitted pictures yesterday of Sasha & Scruff in the gallery here. When you get a chance take a look 😀 I will tell Sasha she hasan adopted Aunt on the internet. Thanks again Tasha! Camille

hiya, again, i was at the vet today for my puppy monthly check up, and as i get on quite well i asked her about your dog, and she said dogs arent known as far as shes been about known to have asthma, but it could happen, when she asked the breed of your dog, she said yes all dogs like shiz tu, boxer, french bulll dogs, bull dogs etc have short snouts and a soft gullet/roof of mouth which can cause the snorting whilst breathing……. or also sometimes these dogs can get nasal infections. which would be similar to hayfever, and also a check with the vet… she agreed with me steaming is good………. hope this of more help for you. hugs tasha

;D Sasha is doing better. She was at the Vet last Friday and they put her in a defibulator machine {spelling ??? } & gave her an antihistimine. I have the vaporizer going at night & she seems to be a little better. I am hoping it was just a cold or an alergy that the vet has no clue about. When I called there yesterday to see if her tests came back yet they told me the next step was a specialist so again even tho I love my vet cause he loves animals I am thinking of asking around & getting refferals. 8) Thanks for your input….I’ll keep you updated & I hope all your babys are doing well! Camille & Sasha

NaplesAngel I’ve just been talking to some one who used to have and love a dog with asthma and she told me that what used to work for her was at night she used to massage some cod liver oil gently into her dogs chest, she said that within days she could really tell the difference and it just got better and better. I would check with your vet first but she was absolubtely convinced that it worked for her and her pet and was talking as though it was some kind of wonder drug. Good luck!!

Hi all I hope that you dont mind me butting in, I have joined a couple of forums just in the last few days because I am thinking of getting another dog soon, as I’ve been three years without my pet now and I think that I can have another. As to your pets asthma, I hope that she gets better for you! I think that a more constant temperature might help as well, my sister used to have a boxer who was very chesty, also his sinuses used to play up but if he gave his nose a hard enough blow it used to give him some relief.

Hello, I have a bulldog with the same problem. Please read my post Lillys Water Fountain. Also Lilly is allergic to corn that is found in every dog food and treat. Its a filler. We found corn free dog food kirkland brand at Coscto. Since we have changed her dog food and she isn’t inhaling her water down into her lungs and throat. She isn’t snoring as bad and hasn’t had any asthma attacks. Hope this helps you.
