My two young canaries have mated and produced 5 chicks, the last hatched yesterday. Today the hen was off the nest and acting aggressive toward the cock. She chased him around the cage and pulled out some feathers. I removed him to another cage which I sat next to the original cage. She settled on the chicks. Cocks usually help feed the young but why has she been aggressive toward him? He is not aggressive to her though did become more animated as the chicks were hatching. I can put him back in tomorrow and keep an eye on them (they live at school). Can she successfully raise the chicks without his assistance?
