New Campaign Offers Free Cat ID Tags

A new campaign has been launched to highlight the importance of cat identification tags in preventing unidentified cats ending up in shelters.

Church & Dwight, makers of ARM & HAMMER® cat litter products and North Shore Animal League America (NSALA), the world’s largest no-kill animal rescue and adoption organization, are working together on a new pet tag initiative. To save the lives of cats, "Tag a Cat, Save a Life," will educate cat owners about the importance of tagging their cats, as millions of lost, unidentified cats end up in shelters each year. Providing a visible identification tag with the cat’s name and owner’s phone number increases their chance of being found and returned safely.

North Shore Animal League America estimates approximately 70% of all animals euthanized each year are cats who enter shelters without identifying tags. Many of these shelters only hold cats for approximately five days, leaving limited time for owners to locate their lost pet. It is critical for cat owners to understand that tagging indoor and outdoor cats is both safe and beneficial to the lives of their pets.

"Many people have misconceptions that having their cat wear a tag and collar can be harmful or uncomfortable for their cat. That is not the case, there are collars that are specifically designed for the safety and comfort of cats," said Joanne Yohannan, senior vice president of operations, North Shore Animal League America. "There are numerous cats that enter shelters daily and it is refreshing when one arrives with a tag so that the shelter can place the lost pet in the hands of its loving family."

To support the collaboration with North Shore Animal League America, Church & Dwight has launched an integrated marketing campaign with the call-to-action, "Tag a Cat, Save a Life", that will appear on packages, magazines, online, and handouts delivered to new cat owners at the point of pet adoption. Cat owners also have the opportunity to obtain a free personalized ID tag via mail with the purchase of any two ARM & HAMMER® Cat Litters including, ARM & HAMMER® Super Scoop® Clumping Litter and ARM & HAMMER® Multi-Cat Extra Strength Clumping Litter.
