Do Kitchen Fumes Make Pet Birds Ill?
I just bought a 4 month old quaker parrot. People tell me that I should not place the cage in the kitchen because fumes from the stove might affect the bird negatively. Is this correct?
The location of your parrots cage is very important. Birds are very sensitive to fumes of any kind and fumes as well as temperature fluctuations within a kitchen could make your bird very ill. Gasses released from overheated non-stick pans and ovens can be toxic and most cleaning products also give off gasses that can be harmful to birds. Its cage should also be away from draughts and out of direct sunlight.
