This is a nice original World War 2 era American Armed Forces military issue 78 revolutions per minute, wind-up phonograph built-in to its original heavy-duty wood and steel military case.  We live in a town with a large air force base where US Army Air Force (USAAF) B-17 pilots and crews were trained during WWII, and this phonograph may have come from there as we bought here a few years ago.  It is the exact type used by United States Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, etc. during World War II.  

This phonograph is in nice condition and works like it was intended to work, but would no doubt benefit from some sort of routine maintenance like a little oil here or there, etc.     It has spent the last several decades in the very, very dry, High Plains desert climate of the Black Hills in extreme southwestern South Dakota, elevation 3500 to about 7000 ft so it has NO musty odor.

This machine is in operating condition.  The crank winds the crank motor very nicely, releasing the brake allows the turntable to rotate very nicely, and the parts stow just the way they were intended to.  Some of the parts may have been fixed or replaced at some point during the last six decades, but we don’t know that.  The sound reproducer has a needle in it and touching the pointed end produces a loud sound through the speaker.  We don’t own any old 78 rpm records so we have never played a record on it.

The 8 x 16 x 17 inch heavy-duty steel and wood case is in very good condition, but has apparently been repainted.  The green leather handle IS original to this machine. The whole unit weighs 24 pounds just the way you see it in our pictures.  Perfect for a collector, a re-enactor group or a World War II museum.  As always, we offer this item with an extremely low opening offer and without a reserve price!
