Just out of a local house is this Rare large wood fragment from the hull of the USS Constitution also known as Old Ironsides. One of six frigates authorized for construction by George Washington creating the first US Navy, the USS Constitution was launched in Boston in 1797. This beloved old ship which served her country most famously during the War of 1812 still resides in Boston. Material from the ship were sold in the 1920s to raise money for the rebuilding in 1927. This historical artifact is very large and measures about 9 5/8 inches long, about 5 5/8 inches high, and about 4 1/2 inches deep. It is curved, has original paint and repaint, and has an iron shaft going thru it.
