Pelikan 101N Long Cap Short Top. Tortoise & RHR Fountain Pen 1936-37. 14C F Flex Nib. ULTRA RARE! Comes in original fitted box. Zero Cracks or Splits etc. FIRST issue 101N. Old Pelikan Logo Cap Top = Pre 1938.
Made in Germany between 1936 and 1937 ONLY. By the end of 1937 the Pelikan Logo changed design. So we have Pelikan Royalty here. An ULTRA RAREfirst issue Long Cap with Short top that is pre 1938 in full Tortoise effect made of Celluloid. Wow Pelikan pens do not get any rarer or more handsome than this chap.Just look at the colours, pattern and patina in that sublime Tortoise effect. EVERY pen is unique in its pattern and colours. Some look much better than others. Such beauty and variation of colour and pattern is RARE to find on ANY 1930-40s Pelkikan. Certainly the most handsome Tortoise example I have ever seen. Puts to shame the Pelikan pens of the 1950-Pesent day. Indeed Pelikan made the best tortoise effect pen of any manufacturer EVER and these early examples are the best Pelikan EVER made. This example has ZERO cracks, splits or repairs ANYWHERE. Comes in its ORIGINAL ultra rareBlue Leather Hard Case. Silk lined with fitted Blue velvet base customslot so pen snug fitsinto place and does not move.
These Pelikan 101 pens are compact in size when capped yet to think of them as small is to not understand their design. Once cap is posted on tail ready to write as they were designed they become full size senior pens. As long as 1950s 146 for example. So they are not short at all. They also have great width. However once your finished writing and the pen is capped they are a very practical size that actually fits in your shirt chest or jacket inner pockets etc should you wish to put there; unlike most pens.
TheBlind Cap (Tail End) and Piston housing are made of RHR (Red Hard Rubber) . The Front Section (Part you hold when writing) is BHR (Black Hard Rubber). The Clip is also just as rare. This is the only Vermeil Pelikan Clip of this age I have ever seen. Unique to this model and age. Clip has lost some of its gold on the high points and front and could easily be re-plated but I choose to leave alone as it shows the unique Silver underneath and is one of a kind rare. Looks fabulous in the hand to the naked eye just as it is. The rings are Yellow Gold plated and perfect with no brassing or plate loss. VERY rare to find such clean cap rings. I especially love the wonderful Red Amber translucent Window this pen has for viewing your ink reserve inside the pen. These Amber inner barrels are said to be made of Bakelite but I am unsure and would rather posit they are also Celluloid. But either way they are the rarest and most highly sought after of all the ink windows. (These rare early original inner barrels often get replaced for see through light green aftermarket barrels due to cracks etc). This barrel is all parts original crack free. Ultra Rare!
The 14C EF Flex nib is the Nib the 101N and 100N (N = New) model was launched with in 1936-37 until 1939 then came the Gold ban in Germany and nibs were first palladium then steel until 1946. It writes with a very elegant Fine line that has Extra Fine line side stroke at normal pressure. Perfect for every day use. This nib also has some flexibility that allows for even more line width variation on the down stroke when varying levels of pressure is applied. Can flex from Fine to Double Broad. The Flex is not soft or loose and only ever flexes upon user command never by itself.
This fabulous pen is also in perfect working order. Fills to the MAX every time. Very easy to fill. Simply screw the Blind Cap (Tail end) to extend the piston. Now place nib in bottled ink. Reverse screw the blind cap to retract the piston to fill. Take nib out of ink and wipe any excess with paper towel. Done. Takes less than 10 seconds and is child\'s play simple.
