This collar is the real deal. I’m the original owner, I bought it new in the early 1980s when I worked at a pet store. This collar was on a dog mannequin in a display in our store. Because it was never used on a live animal it’s not broken-in at a particular prong hole. You can’t find collars this high-quality anymore unless you have someone custom make one for you. This is genuine top-grain leather, not reconstituted leather being passed off as leather (like so many pet store websites do) Don’t be fooled by the collars out there with a rolled-over edge that hides the edge of the leather – if the leather is soft enough to fold it back on itself like that it means the collar is made of soft flimsy leather. That type of leather stretches out plus it doesn't last. Same with single-ply collars, they also get really stretched out. For added strength this collar is constructed of two pieces of stiff top-grain leather that are sewn together back-to-back then given a polished edge. Additionally, this collar has a glossy finished surface on both sides so there is no exposed metal on the inside of the collar that can catch the hair on your dog's neck. The leather has the same texture and flex as when I bought it (not dried out or brittle, etc.) There are some insignificant scuffs in the black finish along the edges simply from rubbing against other things while in storage for the last 40 years. Other than that it's mint. This collar was made back when things were built to last a lifetime. Odds are you will never see this exact collar ever again, so if you like this one snap it up.
