Product\'s Description
Your will receive our KOHLER COURAGE SV540S-0222 18 HP VERTICAL CRANKSHAFT to replace your SV540-0011 or any SV540 engines with same crankshaft size as 1\" dia x 3-5/32\" length. VERY IMPORTANT: This engine has fuel pump (it is a good thing). You may find a similar little bit cheaper engine elsewhere, but it may not have fuel pump. You will need a fuel pump on an engine if your mower requires one. If you buy a single cylinder engine without a fuel pump, you may not be able to install a fuel pump on an engine that was designed without a fuel pump. Fuel pump is usually required when the fuel tank is under the seat or by the seat area.

The fuel pump was installed under the shroud (cover) on this engine. That was why you don\'t see it in the picture

• It is like universal and Used by Cub Cadet, Sears (Craftsman), Husqvana, MTD, SNAPPER and OTHERS that have same engine with same specification
• This engine has same mounting and shaft as all KOHLER Single cylinder COURAGE 15-20 HP (SV470, SV480, SV530, SV540, SV590, SV600) if you don\'t mind more or less HP
• OVERHEAD VALVE DESIGN (O.H.V.) design
12 volt electric start
• Crankshaft size: 1\" diameter x 3-5/32\" length keyed VERTICAL (bottom) crankshaft. Please make sure your engine has the same crankshaft size or call us
• Crankshaft Drilled and tapped 7/16-20
  
• No gas tank, no muffler
  
• New engine mounting holes not tapped (not threaded). You will have to tap them
  

• Not all engines have the same wire harnesses. If the new engine\'s wire harness is not the same as the old engine\'s wire harness, you may have to transfer the old wire harness to the new engine and place the all the wires in the right wire harness\'s slots.

Vertical (up and down) crankshaft engine has its crankshaft on the bottom and when mounted on an application, the crankshaft must point down to the ground. Vertical crankshaft engines can\'t replace horizontal crankshaft engines most of the time. A vertical crankshaft engine may look similar to a horizontal crankshaft engine (vice versa), but because the ways of the two engines\' set up, one can\'t replace another.

What is a HORIZONTAL crankshaft engine?
A Horizontal (side) crankshaft engine has a crankshaft on its side and when mounted on an application, the crankshaft must point side way. A Horizontal crankshaft engine can\'t replace a vertical crankshaft engine most of the time.

A horizontal crankshaft engine may look similar to a vertical crankshaft engine (vice versa), but because the ways of the two engines\' set up, one can\'t replace another.

Measure the Diameter of a crankshaft
Diameter is the distance of the center of a circle (see picture). It is very important that your new engine crankshaft\'s diameter must be the same as your old engine\'s in order to reuse all the pulleys and electric clutches.
Example 1 (1\" diameter): If your old engine\'s crankshaft diameter is 1\", you have to buy an engine that has a 1\" diameter crankshaft.

Example 2 (1-1/8\" diameter): You have a 1-1/8\" diameter crankshaft engine, but you want to buy a 1\" diameter crankshaft engine. In this case you have to use some 1\" Inside Diameter x 1-1/8\" Outside Diameter sleeves to convert the 1\" diameter to 1-1/8\" diameter. We have these sleeves available.
