I bought this chest from the artist, Marlene Coble in 2003 at a craft fair in the northern Virginia area. She and he husband, also an artist, are from Angola, Indiana. You can check out their web site at drcobleandcompany.com. The husband and wife team buy quality vintage furniture and hand paint each piece in their own distinctive style.
This is a great size chest for any area in your home. The back splash has a fawn colored cat with yellowish- green eyes laying across the center. On the right is a lovely hound/beagle and on the left is an adorable bull dog.
A drawer with two pulls. There is a saying painted around the drawer \"Like many other much loved humans, they believed that they owned their dogs (and cats), instead of realizing that their dogs (and cats) owned them. dodie smith.
The piece is signed Marlene Coble, 2003 on the left hand bottom corner of the drawer.
The top has two hounds and three cats scampering around the border, which is stenciled.
Two front doors. One has a Black Lab, one a Golden Retriever. Both are sitting in an oval with creamy gold/yellow background, surrounded by muted green and then hand stenciled and decorated.
The middle of the bottom apron has a aristocratic tabby staring off into the distance.
Both sides are decorated in a lattice design as shown in picture.
Height at tallest is 33\". From top to floor 27\". 29 1/2\" wide. 15 1/2 deep
This chest is really a piece of art, not a piece of furniture.
