This is a scarce and hard to find, Fine Antique Hand Forged, Fancy, double mounted silver inlaid & engraved, charcoal blued, matching set of kids spurs with original spur straps. Being completely hand made, there are very slight variations in size. These small spurs are scarce in this size; only about 3 3/4\" long, and made for a young buckaroo, cowboy or cowgirl. The pair, with straps, weighs only 10.1 ounces. The heel band openings are around a 2 1/4\" measurement at the open end; probably for a child\'s size boot in the 5-10 year old range. Both the outside & inside shanks are silver inlaid in the traditional figure 8 pattern with zig zag engraved & punch dot decorations. The 6 tined rowels being hand forged, vary slightly; and are about 1 5/8\" - 1 3/4\" in diameter. The outside rowel pins have small bullet shaped rowel pin finials. The outside rowel tines are silver inlaid with zig zag engraving; the inside rowels are unadorned. As expected, the rowels get a lot of wear; but I only found one small piece missing on one tine. The heel bands are about 3/4\" tall. The outside heel bands are silver inlaid with U shaped silver inlaid borders that are hand engraved in a zig zag pattern. The outside heel bands have center panels decorated with line engraving, stippled (textured) and punch dot engraving. The inside heel bands are silver inlaid in a traditional diagonal striped pattern. The outside & inside buttons are 1/2\" diameter with 2 silver inlaid panels that are zigzag and punch dot engraved; the inside 1/2\" buttons are plain iron. All 4 swingers and buttons are original and match. All the Iron has a dark natural aged patina, with traces of the original charcoal bluing. The inside of the heel bands have lot of the original blue, demonstrating these spurs have seen little use. The silver inlays have dark, natural aged untouched patina with sharp engraving. The spurs are complete with fine, old, original calf skin lined leather spur straps with nickel plated buckles. Due to the poor tanning process of Mexican leather, the straps are rarer than the spurs, and add considerable value.
This is about as good as it gets for a silver inlaid pair of kids spurs with original straps. It is extremely hard to find a matching set of fancy, Antique, fancy, double mounted, silver inlaid & engraved, charcoal blued kids spurs in fine condition; especially with fine fancy old original leather spur straps. You would have to have a wealthy Padre to be given a pair of silver inlaid kids spurs like these. In wealthy families, the kids would have outfits identical to their Father\'s Charro outfit; only in miniature. These spurs come from South of the Border, down Mexico way, and date to the Charro period from the 1920\'s - 40\'s. These scarce Kid\'s spurs would make a handsome Old West decoration, Cowboy, Vaquero, Horse Trapping, Equestrian, Spur, or Western Americana display or conversation piece; or, could actually be worn by some lucky young buckaroo.
