An antique Gilt Bronze casket or Jewellery Box commeorating the 1897 diamondJubilee of Queen Victoria. This is a heavy piece and the casting is high quality .
The lid depicting queen Victoria and the dates of her reign 1837-1897 The sides depicting events during her reign.
The front with justice and learning, the back with emblems of thecommonwealth, one side is the arts and the other is industry.
Condition, the lid is a littleage darkened, the sidesand base are bright retaining most of the gilt, just showing bronze on the high points.
The interior looks as though it has been relined.It is a dark green, even though it shows blue on the pics.This has been professionally done. there is a lock but no key.
An impressed 19 on the inner rim and a small impressed mark on the base. The only fault is a missing screw to the hinged lid shown in close up on pic 9
