2 Framed Feathered Red Parrot/Bird Pictures, Bodies Made Of Feathers, Handmade For Sale -

Estate vintage made in Mexico midcentury (circa 1960\'s) pair of matching framed parrot/exotic bird pictures, hand crafted with bird bodies made of actual bird feathers. These were extremely popular tourist souvenirs during the 1960\'s throughout Mexico, and have become increasing rare and collectible. I also have a matching wicker tray in this style listed as well. The frames are solid wood in a baroque style, hand-framed with layers on paper pasted on the back. The frames have a number of chips in them, which could be filled in or perhaps painted, and are a medium brown wood. If you are looking at these at an authenticity angle, I would just leave them as is. Both birds are either parrots or the same breed of exotic birds; one has a fully red body, tail and head, the other has a striped throat, yellow head and multicolored tail feathers. They are \'perched\' on crudely drawn branches with small, blooming flowers, also hand painted. Both birds face to the right and are intricately done. A few loose feathers have floated to the bottom of each frame. Measurements are 13\" high/tall and 7\" wide, framed. Reminiscent of the \'glory days\' of Mexico as a destination resort, when sterling silver jewelry was very inexpensive and locals vied to make a living, literally, by selling hand-crafted bird artwork, trays, vases, etc. both in stalls, at resorts and on the beaches.
