You are offerding on a Rare early 1900\'s beer stein from Dietrich Tatje Bar/Saloon in Brooklyn, New York. This Pre-Prohibition German beer stein is in great shape for it\'s age. There are no cracks, chips or other damage. There are a couple of small imperfections that were caused when fired (see photo). This 5 1/4\"- 1/4 liter stein is marked GERMANY and the makers mark. The maker is Albert Jacob Thewalt. This Impressed mark was used from 1907 - 1920. Capital \"I\" & \"J\"are the same in Old German. Current thinking is that the dot above thecrossbar is to indicate thatan \"I\"or\"J\" is there; hence \"Albert Jacob Thewalt\".
Albert Jacob Thewalt (b.5th August 1857 - d.29th November 1939)co-founded in around1882 Paulus & Thewalt with Jean Paulus, who became his brother in law in 1883. He left this partnershipon the 1st July 1894to starthis own company. Wilhelm Kamp designed the first stein in 1897. This would make a great addition to anyone\'s collection. Check out my other sales!
