Rocky was 13 years 8months old he had a hard time walking vet said he had little feeling in his back legs and he nolonger could control were he went to the bathroom he would just be walking in the house and it would just come out he still was eating and drinking and i feel like i put him down too soon? what do you think please tell me!

I think you let your dog go gracefully before he got really bad and now you have a big guilt issue. Your dog would have said thank you for caring enough to let him go peacefully .God Bless You

I agree completely and think you were very brave to let your dog go while he had dignity and before he lost all quality of life. There is always going to be guilt after putting an animal down no matter what the curcumstances but I think you know in your heart it was the correct thing to do.

I believe you did the right thing. You let him go with dignity. Our rottie was diagnosed 12-26 with cancer in a very advanced stage. We put him down on this past Tuesday because his symptoms and difficulties were quickly progressing. As difficult as it was and with little time to prepare, we did what we felt was best for him. He was 10 days short of 11 years old.

I know exactly how you feel. My old girl Chestnutbelle had a massive stroke and seizures after 10 days on Rimadyl..She was almost 15 years old..It has been 2 years ago now, on New Years Day..It was the hardest decision I ever had to make. I could not let her suffer any more. She would not want me to feel badly, we where best friends and she will live on forever in my memories. I would have spent any amount of money to give her back her life. A dog has so much pride and dignity is not fair to keep them with us just so we can keep them with us,when they are suffering. You did the right thing. You will always have second thoughts and doubts when you have to make this decision. I wish I could tell you that someday you will not feel this way, but most likely this is something you are going to live with forever. We are very fortunate that we do not let our pets have to suffer like we do to humans, for years sometimes, no dignity left, just rolling them over and cleaning them in a bed. If a dog can not play and have a good quality of life, in the wild they would just stop eating and basically commit suicide. You where very brave and helped your best friend go peacefully. Please know that anyone who ever has to make this horrible decision feels as you do. Your dog would thank you and would never want you to feel badly. I hope this helps you.

I understand what you are going through. I just put down our dog Boomer, and I keep thinking the same thing. I do know that both of us wouldn’t be going through this if we didn’t love them so much and that we wouldn’t have made the decision out of anything but love ultimately. I know both of our dogs are at peace now and I think in time we will be also.
