Pet Travel Guide

When you decide you really want to take your pet with you on vacation, you'll need to do some advance planning and preparation. This guide has been compiled to help you through this process.

Are You Sure You Want Your Pet to Travel?

You may not be sure whether to take your pet with you. Consider whether your pet will be happy and comfortable throughout the extent of the journey as well as while at your destination. Ask yourself if, for example, a 12 hour flight is worth not leaving your dog in a Boarding Kennel for a week. Or if your pet is very old or infirm, maybe the stress of traveling would prove overwhelming. You can consider a Pet Sitter or a house sitter who also looks after pets.

 Essential Travel Tips

Take a Photograph of Your Pet
Make sure to take several copies with you. If the worst should happen and you lose your pet in a strange environment, you will be very thankful to have some recent photographs for identification.

Make Sure Your Pet Has an ID Tag
This may be a good idea to consider having your pet microchipped.

Does Your Accommodation Welcome Pets?
Remember that not all hotels and motels allow you to keep pets in your room. You can find many pet-friendly lodgings in our Pet Friendly Accommodation Directory. Once you are there, remember to inform the management that your pet is with you, and always place the "do not disturb" sign on the door when you are out without your pet. If you have a carrier or crate, consider keeping the pet in the carrier during your absence. Remember to respect your hosts - don't allow animals to sleep in the bed, or on furniture.
