Atlanta Airport Opens Dog Park Facility
Atlanta, Georgia (Dec 2nd, 2009)
On November 18th, Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson airport opened it's new off-leash dog park in time for the holiday season.
Hartsfield-Jackson airport accommodates thousands of canine customers every year and the new facility will cater for 2 dogs at a time. The fully fenced 1,000-square-foot dog park is part of the Ground Transportation center on the west end of the passenger terminal, and features flowers, grass, rocks, benches and "two original pieces of art to sniff and enjoy". Biodegradable bags for pet waste are available at the dog park to help meet the needs of this growing group of passengers.
"The dog park is a good step forward in serving our customers traveling with dogs," said Kathryn Masters, Airside/Landside area manager and project manager for the dog park.
Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson airport joins many other American airports in providing facilities for traveling dogs, with most airports only providing a small area for "relief", and in some places only service animals such as guide dogs are allowed access. However, Atlanta has recognized the value of a dog park as a selling point to customers, as have other large airports such as Boston's Logan International Airport which has 4 pet-relief areas and California's San Francisco International Airport which has 2 fully fenced and landscaped areas.
