The Palomino horse or "Golden Horse" is said to be once the choice of ancient emperors and kings, and has been made famous in cinema the world over as a favorite of cowboys.

Origin The Palomino is not strictly a breed but a color although recognized as a breed in the US. They were taken to the US by Spanish settlers, where some escaped and became mixed with herds of Mustangs. They were later used by the cowboys as saddle horses.
Characteristics Vary immensely according to the breeding line.
