The Paint Horse is descended from Spanish horses brought to the US and was popular with the American Indians as a war horse. The American Paint Horse is not strictly a breed but to qualify as a Paint Horse, horses must come from Quarter Horse, US Thoroughbred, or Paint Horse breeding.

American Saddlebred Horse Fact File

Origins: Descended from Spanish horses brought to the US and popular with American Indians as a war horse.

Characteristics: The Paint Horse is not strictly a breed, and must come from Quarter Horse, US Thoroughbred, or Paint Horse breeding. Stock type conformation

Height: Up to 16 hands

Color: Overo: Bold white head markings, irregular scattered coloured patches and often with dark legs Tobiano: Head is colored, the colored patches are regular, oval or round and at least all of the lower legs are white. Some coat patterns show characteristics of both types and these are called "Tovero". White with varying amounts of another color.

Personality: Intelligent, dutiful and willing

I have owned ASBs for 37 years. They are the most people oriented breed I have ever worked with. They do excel at what ever they are trained for. They do ranch work, are fabulous driving horses and are great on trails. Several owners are getting their NTRC miles . From the backyard family horse to the World Grand Champion Five Gaited horse ASBs can do it all. Trained with kindness and empathy, a Saddlebred will do his best to do what is asked of him. This people pleasing attitude and love of human contact is why we have Saddlebreds.
