The Akhal Teke is an ancient Turkmene horse from Asia where it was used by nomadic tribes and used as a war horse. The Akhal Teke's amazing stamina was demonstrated in an endurance ride across 2,600 miles from Ashkhabad to Moscow over 84 days, including 3 days traveling across the desert without water.

Origins: Developed in Russia from Asiatic stock used for hunting and as a war horse.

Characteristics: Small, pretty head with long ears, long thin neck, sloping shoulder, long body, fine legs, sparse mane and tail. They are a hardy horse, long striding, fast with plenty of stamina.

Height: 14.2 to 15.2 hands

Color: Bay, chestnut, gray or gold with black points. The coat has a metallic look to it.

Personality: Spirited, stubborn and bold.
