My Parson Russell Terrier Jimmy is 3 years old and absolutely wonderful--this breed is definitely for you, if you have energy and time to train them. My Jimmy is very willing to please and perform, but needs to know at all times that I have the situation under control, otherwise he will take things in his own "paws". He is very sensitive to my moods and has some fear issues--loud noises, fireworks, etc. He is also very protective of our property and of me, but we have his barking well under control--he has his ritual and knows he must down and stay when people come to the door. It works! I think it is very important with this breed especially, to expose them to many different situations at a very early age. Jimmy is very active, but needs as much brain-work as he does pure exercise. Again, it is a breed that gives lots back, if you are willing to train them. Super clever and people oriented.
