I am on my third Sheltie in 30 years and I just love Shelties. They are highly intelligent and excel in obedience competition and agility trials. Shelties are also very sensitive and loving dogs and are not meant for heavy handed owners. A good dog has a good master that takes the time to take the dog to school and train the dog to become a good family pet. I've enjoyed all the obedience classes that we've attended. We even did agility. It was great exercise for me too! Shelties are wonderful dogs and my next dog will also be a Sheltie. I am a Sheltie fan for life! To control the barking there are many training techniques one can use. My dog is well under control and doesn't bark that often. I bring my Sheltie to school to work with my disabled kids with mental retardation and they just adore him. He's so gentle and loving with my high school students.

We have a sheltie (9 years old) and love her dearly. She is very loyal and loves attention - she is wonderful with my husband and I, but I don't thinkI'd get another. She barks all day long and is has a short temperament with young children.

Our first Sheltie, Ritzi passed last spring. She was quite the lady until the end. As owners of this breed knows, they are horrible barkers, but this gentle soul raise my two kids with all the pride and patience of a mom. My second is three years old. Zacchaeus, he is also a barker (I'm sure I am real popular w/my neighbors). But Zach is so gentle with children and adults, his personality is precious. If you can put up with barking, I highly recommend this breed.

My Sheltie Fred is 16 years old and still runs around like a youngster. He was born Feb. 4, 1988. Is he the oldest living Sheltie? I don't know. Let me know.

I have 2 shelties (lady-7 and Bandit-8mths) both females and both very loving. Lady (oldest) is a barker but we have taught her to stop all we have to say is, "QUIET!" and she listens. Bandit learns very easy when I bought her she didn't know any tricks but with in the first 2wks of having her she learned how to sit. this breed is very intelligent. to pick it out I would get the female 1st because they are better listeners. I breed my dogs and am going to keep one out of the next litter. this is a very loyal and loving pet.
