Added on Jan 1st, 2008 These dogs are so adorable. They have this curiosity level that will drive you mad but they really are very good dogs. They make good mini hunting dogs, are very friendly, and love to get out and do things as much as possible. Good dog for an active family or a single person with lots of time to do things with the dog, like walks, training, and play time. All around good dog. Usually very good temperament and highly active dogs.

Added on Jan 1st, 2008 Contrary to the profile on this breed, the Jack Russell is EXTREMELY active and demands constant exercise. If you cannot give this dog the attention and activity it requires, it will go nuts and tear up your house. Jack Russells are hunting dogs, not house pets. They need to run at least 2miles a day to be calm in the house. They are usually not good with children either and must be supervised when with kids.

Added on Jan 1st, 2008 People told me that I did not want a JR because they were so hyper. This is not true with ours. She is very gentle even letting our little grand-daughter take food away from her. We got our JR from a local breeder who was giving her away. ( I have heard several horrible stories about why breeders give away adult dogs) We are very satisfied with her temperament.

Added on Jan 1st, 2008 I've noticed a lot of the comments about JRs mention how hyper they are, and how much attention and exercise they need. I must agree! I have a little guy who's half Jack Russell/half Boston, and I've come to a conclusion: the dog is smarter than a lot of people I've known, so I think he constantly needs to be challenged. Lots of indestructible toys and a big back yard have helped with mine, plus my other dogs keep him busy, too! Sweetest, most loving little dog I've ever seen, but he definitely is a handful!

Added on Jan 1st, 2008 JRT's are the best! yes they have lots of energy, so you must have a backyard for these dogs. I believe these are great dogs w/ kids. Myson got his JRT when he was 2 and would carry him by his neck (by mistake) and the dog is a very good nature dog they now have grown up together and can't be separated.... Again these are GREAT dogs!
