From Megan, Washington I own a Newfoundland and her name is Meggie. She is the best dog I could
ever have! I also own 2 other dogs. If you really want a dog that gets along
with kids and loves to go swimming with you if you go to the beach or something
this is definitely the kind of dog you want to get! Just be aware of their
size!!
From Eileen, Location Unknown A dog trainer I know referred to Newfies as "grooming nightmares".
She was not kidding! These dogs are very high maintenance with their double
coats and long hair. They also drool constantly, and thus provide much extra
housework. One thing no one told me about Newfies (I have 2) is they won't
exercise themselves. You have to do that too! At least an hour a day I walk both
dogs. On the plus side, they are very loyal, sweet, funny companions who with
training and socialization, will get along with just about anyone and anything.
And that says alot.
From Crazie4k-9z, Colorado Best dog in the world
From bubblehead1958, Michigan Absolutely the most gentle, loyal, kind, loving dog I have ever owned. Sam
is 130 lbs. of compassion. Everyone who meets him at first is intimidated by his
massive size, yet within seconds they are in love with him. Not only are
Newfies great with children, they are equally wonderful around elderly and
almost instinctively know to be gentle. Sam has also raised 2 Chihuahuas
from the time they were puppies, not to mention raising a guinea pig and a
parakeet. They are "Gentle Giants" for sure.
From Peter, Thunder Bay A Newfoundland is wonderfully kind dog of great sensitivity and strong
character. Its hard to find words to describe there sense of loyalty and
unselfishness. There is no better family dog. There sole mission in life is to
enjoy it with you to the fullest, and to make sure those around them are safe,
and happy.
