The miniature Pinscher is a WONDERFUL family pet. They are not really good with children and they require/desire to spend 24/7 with their family, and they dont take well to strangers. They love to snuggle and if they sleep with you they prefer to be under the covers. I only feed mine Science Diet. She gets brushed daily and I also give her a supplement to help with her skin and coat to make it shiny. Actually the food (Science Diet) is really all about you need though. I also take her for daily short walks and wipe her each morning with a cloth you get at walmart to use in between bathing. I ALWAYS keep fresh H20 in her bowl at all times and she is never allowed human food...

Though a Toy breed in the US. The Min Pin is actually a terrier breed. Designedfor ferreting out vermin on farms. These dogs are primarily site dogs that once they get a bead on something will chase forever. They are the greatest escape artist of all breeds and if there is any weakness in a fence, this breed will surely find it. Very difficult to housetrain or train in general which is somewhat contradictive as they are actually a very intelligent breed. They are extremely independent by nature and a great deal of socializing early is a must to ensure that they do not act out on their natural protective instincts. Though they are lap dogs, Pins do not like to be grabbed or pulled or picked up. They will come when they want attention and are best left alone when they do not want attention. I am a former long time breeder who now raises and rescues this breed and have seen just about everything in this little imps. It is NOT a miniature Doberman and was around nearly 200 years prior to Louis Dobermans creation. Its not related either to the Manchester Terrier. Many claim the Min Pin is actually just another name for the Manchester. This is not true in the least. They have no common heritage. The pin's country of origin is Germany and asnoted in the early 1800's came from the Dachshund and the Italian Greyhound. Theearly pins took on the coloring of these breeds where the "Harlequin"Black and White and the "Merle" (dapple in the Dachshund) blend of black and grey with feathering of rust or tan were very common.
