Added on Jan 1st, 2008 I just had the hardest time dealing with my golden retriever's death. This was because she was the best dog we ever had. She was great towards kids and was so loving. She never bit . When ever I would cry she would come over and lie next to me sometimes whimpering. Golden retrievers do not like to be yelled at or they will whimper and my daughter has already told my husband that he hurt the dogs feelings and the dog was crying. I would definitely recommend this breed for any family with energy , love, or kids!

Added on Jan 1st, 2008 We have an 18month old retriever. She is very placid and very friendly. We have recently become grand parents and the dog has been very good towards the baby. She lays next to her and licks here, although we would never leave her alone with the child unattended. The dog needs a lot of exercise and loves to swim whenever she can even if the water is freezing she will swim. If I were to get another dog it would have to be another golden. They are also very good guard dogs.

Added on Jan 1st, 2008 I knew 15 yrs. in advance the dog I wanted was a golden retriever. "K.T"is his name,10 yrs. ago I got him and tonight his mate "Reba" (another golden) just had 8 beautiful puppies. Our family has been blessed in many ways with the addition of KT and his family. There is not a more loyal, happy, handsome, loving, canine companion that $ can buy.

Added on Jan 1st, 2008 They are wonderful, funny, intelligent and loving, protective and happy dogs. I have two rescued ones now, and their characters could not be more different. The dog is potty, and loves to play tug of war, the bitch is cuddly and licky. Golden retrievers need lots of exercise and they react well from being treated as a member of the family. They are curious and love to watch what you are doing. And they are brilliant with children. Very protective and tolerant. Obviously, the way a dog is brought up says a lot to how it behaves, but if you treat them like a well loved member of the family you will not go wrong.

Added on Jan 1st, 2008 Over the past 25 years, I have been the fortunate owner of three wonderful male Golden Retrievers and one Golden mix. Each one had their own special personality, and was intelligent, forgiving, loving, kind and gentle. I cannot recommend any other breed more highly than a Golden. They're wonderful.
