Our Readers' Comments
on This Breed
From Heather Evans, Virginia IF YOU HAVE TIME & ARE CONSIDERING A DOBERMAN PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING:
The bloodlines will determine exact height & weight Example- Our
dobeys mother is 32" tall & 120lbs and his father is around 36"
tall & 150lbs, His grandmother was over 120lbs and he has an uncle weighing
in at 180lbs. They are heavier than most Dobeys, not to mention several inches
taller. My Doberman is now 6 months old & well over 75-80lbs. We go through
20lbs of dog food in a week & a half (again bloodlines are a big part of
this). It is very important to know your breeder, DONT impulse buy. Bloodlines
are a crucial part in the development, size, and temperament of your dog. Another
consideration is Dobermans are stubborn & need to be told no for the same
thing several times in a positive NONE abusive manner. They are sensitive. They
require a patient, loving, FIRM owner who has the time needed to properly train
them. They are NOT for first time dog owners. As for the White dobeys-
They are not Deleterious to the general breed. They tend to have more skin
problems as would any white color dog. But that's about it. Dobermans are
great. they make wonderful companions. They bond quickly & its a hard bond
to break. There are too many dobeys "cast" out because buyers didn't
realize what they were getting into or they ended up with an aggressive dog due
to lack of or poor training (this goes back to being a first time dog owner you
have to know how much is enough and how much is too much). Sadly they are hard
to Re-Adopt so many are euthanized. Many people buy them because they are
"Dobermans". Hede1816@hotmail.com
From Mark, Germany This is one fantastic dog, but buyers beware he is also hard work, he tells
me to walk him he tells me when he wants something. he is bossy, he barks a lot
and demands constant attention, he loves to fight me and is like my shadow, but I
love him to bits. If you get one then you must show this dog respect or he will
show you no respect, but he loves children and playing football he has more
brains than you would expect from a dog he opens doors and always one step ahead
of what your going to do and a superb guard dog.
From Sarah Jones, Columbus, Ohio Doberman Pinschers are beautiful dogs. I have two. (Romeo and Juliet) both
are black with rust marks. two and three years old. I love those dogs to death.
they've become a part of the family. Kandy_Flipz69@yahoo.com
From Kia, Western North Carolina I am owned by 4 of these wonderful dogs and I wouldn't have any other breed!
Storm (black/rust), Zena (blue/rust), Bosco (red/rust), and Lucas(black/rust)
are my kids ranging in ages from 4 years to 6 months. I don't know of any
other breed that is more loyal, trustworthy, affectionate, friendly, more
willing to make friends but protective. I trust my guys around anyone and while
it has a lot to do with upbringing and breeding...it has also to do with
the breed. I love talking to and meeting other Doberman lovers.
