Hi,
We have a Dachshound his name is Critterbug.
He is six years old. You couldn't ask for a better companion. He is one special little guy. He developed a back problem and we now have him on steriods. I feel so bad. I wish there was more we could do for him. He's getting around better now, but he sometimes looks so sad. I wish there was something more to do for him too make him happy as he makes me.

I have a 6-month old chocolate/tan dapple named "Harley”.. He has the biggest personality of any dog I've ever known. He is ridiculously smart and already knows a dozen or so commands including: "Bed" (get into his bed), "Sleep?" (get into my bed), "Stairs" (use his stairs to get onto the sofa, rather than jumping), "Come", "Sit", "Stay", "Hush", "No" and my favorite, "time to wake up the girls!" at which time he runs up the stairs and into my daughters' rooms. Harley loves the entire family, tolerates visitors and would just as soon eat strangers from the ankles up! He is extremely protective and hyper-aggressive. He guards his domain (house, yard and driveway) fiercely. He gets along well with our 6 year old black lab but is clearly the Alpha dog. He and the 9 month cat are inseparable. You'll seldom find one without the other. He hates our parrot with a passion. He will bark, growl and lunge at the bars of her cage. Fortunately he does respond to "Weiner No!" perhaps even more fortunate, "Weiner No!" is a regular part of the bird's vocabulary.
Incredible little dog. Insanely difficult to housebreak but truly the most engaging breed I've ever owned.

My Husband was deployed to Iraq. I thought a friend would be nice and purchased a 8 week old dushund I have named MR. Noodles.
I know nothing of the breed, and have found him to make my days go by faster. He is hard to potty train. Some days he is great and then there is the day where he goes in the house. I have to keep every thing small picked up off the floor, he finds and chews on everything. He is smart, loves every one he meets. He is fearless, even when meeting dogs much, much bigger.
i was not sure if we would be a good match, but got to say in one month he has won my heart and every one who comes in contact with him.

I have always had really large dogs... but I now have 2 mini doxies. They have wonderfully different personalities and are by far the smartest dogs I've ever owned!
Brodie the 9 month old male, is incredibly mischevious, loyal, playful, loving, protective and cuddly. Hiding under the covers, playing 'catch me if you can' and catching the ball are Brodie's favorite games. He makes me wish I had that kind of energy.
Aggie, the little 5 month old female is a little shy with strangers, but VERY bold with other animals and definately rules over Brodie! She is relentless in her quest for fun, cuddle time and sleeping - Brodie is really in trouble if he 'bugs' her while she's napping.
Both are dapples and seem to have longer legs than most mini's...
They come to work with me every day and I've found that my customers prefer seeing them to my merchandise! OH! They both like to hide little toys on the shelves with the clothing... they are both very clever.

kmarie, I just read your post about Critterbug. I personally have 3 long-haired dachshunds. My oldest, Noodles, (mostly called Moma's girl) ,will be 9 in August and in Jan. 2007 she ruptured a disc in her back. She couldn't even use either of her hind legs. I of course, took her to the vet, they kept her there and on steriiods for four days. Before I could get her in though, I read some disturbing things about some vets and their theories on doxies with ruputures ...they would put them down! I was appalled and beyond upset! Thank God I have a wonderful vet, after those four days, she called and said my girl would need back surgery and gave me a referral to the University of Ga vet hospital, and I had to go pick her up and take her directly there that day, that they were awaiting our arrival. I never cried so hard in my life looking into her sad little face, knowing this was major surgery and it may not even work. She looked so sad when I had to leave her. The doctors called me when she was out of surgery. Two days before I was allowed to pick her up the doctor told me she may not walk again, even if she did, she would never run again. I just wanted my baby back. The doctor made me promise to call him at 2 weeks home, and my vet could take out her staples. She was so excited to see me, as I was her. Within those two weeks many days she looked so sad, and frustrated with me for making her do physical therapy 4 times a day, but she finally did start to perk up. Today, not only can she walk, but yes, she can run. I know they put Critterbug on steriods, but the truth is he doesn't feel good, and really aren't we humans sad when we're hurt. Give him time and he will bounce back. If possible some great PT for him would be swimming. It really does help and it takes pressure off the spine while he streghtens his back muscles again. Good luck and please post and let us know how he's doing. Good luck and God Bless...Deej
