Added on Jan 1st, 2008 This breed of dog was the best dog I ever had. Very loyal and very intelligent. I had him for 13 years, I have never seen a smarter dog. He grew up with a Doberman, so he thought he was a big dog....Would get this breed again in a heartbeat!!!!

Added on Jan 1st, 2008 I would have to agree with the above comment about Chis being strong dogs. I have a long hair Chihuahua. Mine got hit by a car a couple years ago. He was tumbled under a car on a main street. Miraculously he survived and is still running around. Chis are underrated too much. They're definitely great dogs. even with kids. (if they don't tease)

Added on Jan 1st, 2008 I currently have 4 Chi's and would not trade them for anything. They are loyal, loving, intelligent, and fearless. My dogs love other people and children. I have always had them around strangers. They do not like other dog breeds, but definitely recognize meeting their own kind. That is the only time they are friendly to them. My dogs are trained to go outside or on a housebreaking pad when I am at work. This breed is really misunderstood.

Added on Jan 1st, 2008 I also have a 5 year old male Chihuahua. I agree that a Chihuahua is a very loyal dog. I have to say ,although he is taken good care of, visits the vet regular, and I couldn't love anyone or anything any more than I do Casey, my Chihuahua, he does in fact shake and shiver all the time, is very sensitive, and doesn't get along with any other animals at all. He also started having seizures August 2006 and now takes meds 2 times a day. He hasn't had any injuries and all his bloodwork tested negative for all possible causes so the vet says he has developed epilepsy later in life. I will be by his side no matter what. He might be a little dog but he has enough love in his heart to go around the world. I am the lucky one who gets it all though.
Added on Aug 7th, 2008 I have a 1yr old chihuahua that belongs to my daughter who is in college and will be with me for another 2 years. I've had him since April '08. He is a wonderful companion and is smart as a whip. When he lived with my daughter she had him trained to the puppy pad, since living with me I walk him so he has not used the puppy pad since a couple of days after he arrived. Now he won't use the puppy pad at all; I'm concerned because I work and I'm away for the home for at least 8 hours. Any suggestions as to what I should do?
