Just adopted a beautiful little border collie . He is eighteen months old and was tied up in a barn for a lot of his life as he was not good at herding .

We asked the farmer could we take him home and he agreed .He was covered in cow manure and he had been sleeping in his own faeces .He had never walked on a lead and passed a bowel movement on the way home from the farm .

He was so frightened he urinated on himself when we tried to bath him .

But 2 days later he is now walking on a lead . Jumps into the car to go out , and just loves any affection that comes his way .

He is gaining confidence by the second .He is easy to train as he just wants to please his owner .

The border collie can be a family pet if the are well trained as they really enjoy obedience training .

I can't express enough how wonderful this breed is. SMART as a whip, loving, very loyal and gentle..Bachi is about 1 1/2 old. I rescued her from PetFinder.com, she was from KENTUCKY of all places, and I am in upstate NY. Now, Bachi also has some aussie sheperd in her which gives her some of Aussie colors..I would reccommend either breed...she is good with kids, loves to chase the cats(playfully)..LOVES to cuddle despite being 70lbs..and is always nearby..she lays on my feet..I love her so much. I feel like she understands my moods, and has come sit with me while I have cried..God Bless the Beasts and and the Children.

I have had dogs all my life and always thought the Goden R. was the ultimate best breed period. Then a beautiful little Border entered our lives one very cold November day. Now we have a Golden and two gorgeous Borders. They are both sweet natured, beautiful and smarter than your honor student. If you give them the exercise they need (morning and evening till they drop) and are able to spend a lot of time with them they are a breed without fault. My experience is that it probably isn't a good idea to leave them alone with small children, but no dog should be and they want to herd UPS driver a corner. Other than that they are almost perfect dogs and we couldn't ask for more well behaved, gentle and sweet companions.

Border collies are exceptional dogs! While they're often ranked the smartest and most energetic working breed, they're also extremely sweet and faithful pets. I grew up with a border who lived to 17 and now have another one who's almost 2. I've had several other breeds and Heinz 57s, but the borders standout. And they truly are amazingly smart dogs. Just make sure you have lots of energy or children -- borders need a "job" and like nothing better than fetching and running for hours at a time!

Border Collie's are great for farming, herding, and they are really active and sweet dogs all at once. They love attention, love kids, and especially love to run! Also very fast dogs. And very protective of owners & such.
