I grew up with a basset hound that was given to my parents as a wedding present. He traveled all over Australia with us and was a fantastic kids dog. He put many supposedly dog proof fences to shame, spending nights out hunting rabbits and foxes, and survived disasters ranging from eating poison to being caught in a trap to playing dress-ups in my tea parties! Great memories of a great kids' dog.

We are the proud parents of Blue. The thing I didn't expect from a basset hound is her stubbornness, when she doesn't want to do something she won't, even if she has done it before. She gets over excited around kids (people her own size). They are a really smart breed, so if they do something wrong you have to correct it the first time and every time after, or they will pick up on it like kids pick up a swear word.

Hi, I own a basset hound named Marge. She is by far the best dog I've ever had. (I've had three). She loves kids and knows what is right and wrong. She is quick to greet you when you come home from a hard day at the workplace. She is house trained but I wish I wouldn't of put her in the house because she sheds. she also doesn't bother me all of the time like dogs do. If you are considering getting a basset hound and have questions about them feel free to email me at Smilesmd24@aol.com.

I love my basset hound. But anyone considering this breed should know that not all Bassetts are "even tempered". Some are extremely easy going, and then some have a real aggressive streak. My Winnie has taken a lot of work and training to keep her in line; she is rather high strung, easily startled, and has snapped at people, including myself (when she was younger). Ask about the parent's temperament when selecting a dog, and watch how the puppies act with each other, too.
