From Barb, Eastlake, Ohio This breed isn't for everyone. It is; for the confident, committed and
active parent. No one owns an AB. You adopt a family member. Friendship! Never
alone when your feeling blue! This breed is in tune to every member of the
family and neighbors as well. Strong willed and smart! Make sure that you
establish your the boss. This doesn't mean violence, it means lots of positive
reinforcement. These rules will be tested from time to time to make sure that
the rules are the same. Love! Great if you want to cuddle or roller blade. It
all depends on you. If you aren't an active person research another breed. Lack
of exercise makes this pup very anxious. They can entertain themselves but
prefer your company. The AB wants to be with you 24 hours a day. Strength and
agility! If your AB doesn't want to stay around your not going to keep him from
going. They have been known to pull 25 times there weight and jump 6 feet tall
fences. Obedience is a must for the safety of the pup and the parent.
Protection! No training needed. The keen intuition of the AB knows, even when
you don't, that danger is near. Trust them you wont be sorry. Sturdy, loyal,
healthy....not one bad word to be said. Know your breeder and local laws. Some
idiot cities are considering this a dangerous breed. I would be happy to answer
any questions. angelfishexpress@ameritech.net
From Crystal, Monroe, MI I am a breeder of American Bulldogs. As a Breeder of this wonderful dog, my
experience with them is one of intelligence, loyalty, loving, excellent with
children. If anyone out there is looking to add to their family, or wanting a
loyal companion, this is the dog you should be looking at. If you have any
questions at all about this breed, I would be glad to answer them, or at least
try to find an answer for you. crystals_canines@yahoo.com
From Martin, Sunnyvale, CA I stumbled into the American bulldog as a mistake. When i saw an
advertisement in the news paper for an American BULLDOG for 1/2 the price as an
(English) bulldog I went to see them. I thought... that's a bulldog? when i saw
it, but i fell in love with the breed. I own one now, and am extremely happy. No
negative comments on the breed, it is a very confident and loving dog,
protective (don't confuse with aggressive), sporty and loving. Can play for
hours or sleep for days, your attitude reflects upon her. give her love and you
will get love, an unsocialized AB will show "aggression" towards other
dogs, but it's really a way of hiding its confusion. Socialize and you will get
a dog that will play with others for hours... Why such a low rating with kids???
Mine loves kids, not hyper, and protective of them, ( is that why? ) An awesome
dog.
From Aimee Spangler, Illinois They are VERY GOOD with children. ANYONE who is interested in adding
an American Bulldog to their household should do a lot of research before hand.
Contact a number of breeders and enthusiasts and ask as many questions as you
can, visit several kennels, attend an American Bulldog Specialty Dog Show so you
can get an idea of what an American Bulldog can do and should be able to do.
Research is key...
From Diane, Michigan, US I have yet to know of an American Bulldog that wasn't great with children.
If you properly socialize your dog, then they're great with kids (including
infants), so I complete disagree with the stat that ABs are "poor"
with children.
