We have always had big dogs but a friend of mine of a daschund and I just feel in love with him so we set off on a quest for one. Now our 1.5 yo daschund is just a huge part of our family. She gets along with the lab and other small dog we have as well as our two kids. She is very protective of "her" things, toys, bed, house, yard, driveways, etc. But only with strangers, she is very friendly to our family and will put a stranger and dogs in their place. She weighs 7lbs and when she comes across another dog, especially the bigger dogs, she becomes this 100lb bully! However she is the most loving little thing and if you have a blanket, you will find her under it. Then every single toy that has a squeaker in it, she makes sure it comes out. She is such the life of our family and a smart dog for sure! She knows all the basic commands and even pick up toys, she will literally find all the toys and put them in her basket and "Oh no I'm scared" where she will go to the nearest blanket and hide, so cute and makes for a show when friends and family come over. Our other dog is 1/2 daschund and not sure of the other but she as well is the very same as the full blooded. Both of them are great guard dogs and so lovable. We have to make sure there is nothing in the floor other than their toys because they both love to chew on everything and yes for hard to potty train. Some days are better than others but even keeping them on a schedule does not help. But everything else about them make up for for it, plus having hard wood floors helps. Everything about them make them the best dogs to have. IMO!
