Perhaps this breed got this rating due to the breed nature. While I've never owned a AB, we have close friends that have one. He was always great with our children. However, my daughter was attacked by one when we were riding bikes this past April. He actually ran out through a space in the fenced yard and ran at me first, then back toward my daughter and husband. He yanked my daughter off the bike by her leg. We have ridden past the yard many times on our bikes and never had a problem. The only thing we can think of is that he was protecting fellow dogs. Two other dogs belonging in the yard were out in the road, but we merely road past them. I think the first post on here by Barb is most helpful-but remember, any breed of dog could do the same if not socialized and trained properly!
