Coat Type, Color & Grooming: The American Shorthair
comes in many colors and patterns. Here
are some of the most common: Solid colors: Include black,
white, orange, gray, or brown. Bi-color: Predominantly white with
patches of one other color. Tortoiseshell or Calico: A patchy
pattern made up of three or more distinct
colors (usually black, orange, and
cream/white). Tabby: A darker stripy pattern on a
lighter background color; most often gray,
brown or orange.
Nose and
paw pad colors usually correspond to
predominant coat color, varying from pink
to black.
Physical Attributes: Medium to large in size; solid body with wide chest and thick hind legs; oblong head; wide face with wide-set ears and round eyes; short, dense coat that may be thicker in winter.
Personality: Very affectionate; easily disciplined and trained; usually compatible with other pets and children.

Added on Jan 1st, 2008 I have to say the American Shorthair is an excellent breed of cat. I would say they are the most friendly of all. I would recommend them to anyone. They are great companions and welcome other household pets.
