Should The Male (Boar) Guinea-Pig Be Present At Birth?

Is the father guinea-pig allowed to be present at birth? (James Joyce - Virginia)

The boar should be removed about 2 weeks before the litter are due. Although he would never try to harm the babies, they may be trampled when he attempts to mate with her a few hours after giving birth.
