How Best To House Dwarf Hamsters

Tools: Email Bookmark Comment

I have bought a pair of dwarf hamsters. Would they prefer one of these modern plastic homes with tunnels or is it better to have a 'natural' aquarium style home? (Janet - USA)

The decision is not easy - there are many advantages to both and only a few disadvantages. Hamsters can be hard to catch in these plastic homes, and they can also be difficult to clean - consider that the pets may do the toilet in these tubes. Aquariums on the other hand require you to have more imagination. You must provide their entertainment in the form of nest-boxes, branches etc. The decision is yours.
