How To Prepare A Dog Bitch For Birth

Tools: Email Bookmark Comment

My yorkshire terrier is five weeks pregnant. What can I do to help ensure a healthy pregnancy and healthy young? (Isabelle - United Kingdom)

Pregnant bitches have an increased need for a variety of nutrients. Pregnancy demands an increased intake of calcium in particular. The best way of ensuring that the mother and babies are healthy is to obtain a specially formulated diet. The advantage is that you won't have to add anything at all, and this removes a lot of worry. Ask your vet about a suitable formulation. Also, don't forget to ask about worming - this is necessary in pregnant bitches.
